Regularly
The term ‘Regularly’ here is a general term used to describe a scheduled or planned frequency that occurs repeatedly within a set time-frame. The true definition of ‘Regularly’ here is directly related to several variables including:
- the amount of traffic and regular traffic patterns in your facility, and
- the method of carpet cleaning taking place (spot cleaning, deep cleaning, maintenance)
For example, we wouldn’t recommend deep cleaning your home carpet at the same frequency that we deep clean carpets in a busy building. The traffic in your home vs. a building that sees thousands of people daily is very different. While your home carpet probably needs a deep cleaning annually (or semi-annually if you have kids and/or pets), a busy airport might need deep cleaning of some carpets up to 4 times/year! Either way, the same general principles apply; if a carpet is getting any sort of use, ‘regular’ spot cleaning, ‘regular’ maintenance and ‘regular’ deep cleaning needs to happen.
Here are the Top 3 Reasons to Get Carpets Cleaned Regularly
- It extends the life of the carpet. Regular cleaning (spot cleaning, daily maintenance, and deep cleaning) can increase the lifespan of the carpet significantly and protects that investment.
- Removes trapped pollutants and improves indoor air quality: pollutants, soil, debris and stains can get ground in and stuck in the pile of the carpet. Regular deep cleaning removes those pollutants from carpets that generally trap airborne pollutants.
- Prevents buildup of allergens, bacteria and mold: most stains and soiling of carpets can result in the buildup of several unhealthy contaminants. Especially in areas with high humidity levels, dirty carpets are at a high risk of developing mold growth when exposed to moisture.
Remember, it’s important not to over-do-it! If your carpets don’t need to be extracted on a monthly basis, then don’t do it. When it comes to adding moisture to the carpet, you want that done as few times as possible. While necessary for deep cleaning, adding moisture to a carpet over and over can result in more stains and other environmental issues. Spot cleaning and other daily maintenance methods can be effective methods of interim cleaning between appropriately schedule deep cleaning projects.

Earlier this week the Airports Council International released its 2015 Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Award winners and two airports, serviced by DFS Janitorial Operations, made the list!
The ASQ surveys over 550,000 passengers in 300 airports across 80 countries worldwide and compiles award winners from the results of these in-depth surveys. Award winners are categorized by region, airport size, most-improved and other categories. The surveys are conducted onsite at airports, and later a number of those passengers are randomly contacted again to be sure the data collected is reliable and accurate. The questionnaire requests feedback on a variety of areas of the airport including access to and from the terminal facilities, check-in procedures, security courtesy and helpfulness, feeling safe at the airport, wait times and ease of navigation through the terminal. The questionnaire also requests feedback on the quality of the airport facilities including cleanliness of the terminal and the restrooms.
This year, Detroit Metropolitan Airport and San Antonio International Airport were recognized, sharing the #3 ranking on the Best North American Airports serving over 2 million passengers per year. DFS would like to extend congratulations to both the Detroit Metropolitan Airport and San Antonio International Airport!
Also, a huge CONGRATULATIONS to the DFS Janitorial Service teams at Detroit Metro and San Antonio Airports for YOUR contributions to the awards! Your dedication, loyalty, and continued service provided at only the top level of excellence is motivation to us all and truly speaks volumes to our clients, your fellow employees and passengers across the US.

DFS has emerged as a leader in the janitorial services industry. With over 800 employees across the country, a presence coast-to-coast in 7 states across the US, and three corporate offices in Illinois, California and Texas, DFS has grown up to be a frontrunner in providing janitorial and facility services in this country. As the company grows we realize it is time to also grow and develop our marketing strategies. Conventional methods of marketing are no longer as viable as was in the past, but an online presence can prove to be an effective method of reaching target markets and customers.
We now need to find our voice. Who do we want to be online? What do we want to represent?
We know that we want to focus our messages on educating the public about all things janitorial – how to keep your facility clean, what to focus on in terms of a cleaning contract, industry standards and best practices. We also want this voice to project information that we believe in as a company. How to interact with your customers. How to interact with your employees. Human resources initiatives and safety topics. We believe that in order to secure that voice we need to also present the public with an individual that lives, breathes, moves, talks and has a personality that people can relate to and want to listen to. We also believe that this same concept can be a great tool within our organization. To create a personality that speaks to our employees and effectively communicates all things DFS, and most specifically safety information, would be a valuable addition to the method in which we interact with new and existing employees.
With that idea, DFS recently revealed two characters to all of our employees across the country. We launched a Character Naming Contest and asked all employees to get creative and submit names for each of the characters, to win cash prizes. We received over 50 submissions but only two names could immortalize our two new team members. After the names were compiled and votes were tallied our characters now begin to form personalities with the addition of their new names.
And the winners are: DFS/San Antonio International Airport Custodian Lauren Carter for submitting the winning name DisInfecto for our online/social media character. And DFS/Midway International Airport Supervisor Maria Mora for submitting the winning name Tidy Bot for our internal company character.
Lauren and Maria will be presented with their prizes this month and their legacy within the DFS company has been established. We are thankful to all of the participants and appreciate our employees’ enthusiasm to be a part of the company’s growth and personality. Congratulations to Lauren and Maria!

Kitchen Utensils
Hosting any holiday meals at your house? While our dishes, silverware and counters get a lot of attention, we should all spend some time cleaning a few more things. Utensils like rubber spatulas and can openers are some of the germiest things in most kitchens because we generally don’t give them the same attention. Clean those up before opening that can of cranberry sauce and scooping it out!
